8 Fascinating Traits of September Babies: What Makes Them Stand Out

September already! Back-to-school time, and do you know what? September is one of the most common birth months worldwide. Many countries experience higher birth rates during this time, making it a significant and special month for many families. September babies may owe their existence to the Christmas vibes, fairy lights, and a warm fire that create the perfect atmosphere for conceiving.

As the summer heat fades and autumn begins to show its colors, September babies arrive in a time of transition and beauty. If you’re curious about what makes September-born children stand out, you’re in the right place. Let’s explore some fascinating facts and traits that are often associated with those born in this month.

1. Balanced and Diplomatic (Libra Influence)

  • Babies born from September 23rd to 30th fall under the zodiac sign Libra. Libras are known for their strong sense of balance, fairness, and diplomacy. September-born Libras tend to excel in situations where harmony and mediation are needed. They are natural peacemakers, often stepping in to resolve conflicts with a calm and thoughtful approach. This diplomatic nature not only helps them in personal relationships but also makes them excellent team players and leaders in professional settings later in life.

2. Strong Work Ethic and Determination (Virgo Influence)

  • For babies born before September 23rd, Virgo is their guiding zodiac sign. Virgos are known for their meticulous nature, strong work ethic, and determination. September-born Virgos often exhibit these traits from a young age, displaying a keen attention to detail and a drive for excellence in everything they do. Whether it’s academics, hobbies, or later in their careers, they are likely to be seen as hard workers who don’t give up until the job is done right. Their practical and analytical approach to life also makes them incredibly resourceful problem-solvers.

3. September Babies Tend to Be Taller

  • Did you know that babies born in September might have a height advantage? Studies have shown that autumn-born babies, particularly those in September, tend to be taller than their peers. This could be due to the increased sunlight exposure during the final stages of pregnancy, leading to higher levels of vitamin D. This essential nutrient promotes healthy bone development, giving September babies a boost in growth that can continue throughout their lives.

4. High Academic Achievers

  • September babies often have an academic edge. In many countries, school cut-off dates place September-born children at the older end of their class, giving them a slight age advantage. This maturity can translate into better performance in school, setting a strong foundation for future academic success. Studies have shown that older children in a school year often outperform their younger classmates, and September babies often reap the benefits of this early advantage.

5. Natural Leaders

  • With their strong work ethic, organizational skills, and balanced nature, September babies often find themselves in leadership roles. Whether it’s being the class monitor, captain of a sports team, or a leader in their professional lives, they tend to naturally rise to positions of responsibility. Their ability to stay calm under pressure, coupled with their sharp decision-making skills, makes them effective leaders that others respect and follow. Their discerning nature also means they set high standards for themselves and those around them, which can inspire others to excel.

6. Birthstones of September Babies: Sapphire

  • September’s birthstone is the magnificent sapphire, a gemstone that has been cherished for centuries for its beauty and symbolism. Sapphires are widely regarded as symbols of wisdom, good fortune, and virtue. In ancient times, they were believed to protect wearers from envy and harm. Additionally, sapphires are thought to have healing properties, such as soothing the mind, improving focus, and promoting calmness. For September babies, this gemstone isn’t just a stunning piece of jewellery; it represents clarity, wisdom, and protection, making it a meaningful and cherished stone.

7. September Babies Are Likely to Live Longer

  • Research suggests that babies born in September may enjoy a longer life expectancy. Some studies indicate that the timing of their birth could provide certain health advantages, such as better immune system development due to the seasonal conditions. This finding adds to the list of reasons why being born in September is special—these babies may have a slight edge when it comes to longevity, giving them more time to make the most of their unique traits and talents.

8. They Celebrate Their Birthdays with a Change of Seasons

  • September is a month of transition, marking the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. Babies born in September get to celebrate their birthdays during a time of change, renewal, and reflection. The shift in seasons brings cooler weather, vibrant foliage, and a sense of new beginnings, making September birthdays feel extra special. This seasonal backdrop adds an element of beauty and tranquility to birthday celebrations, creating cherished memories for September-born individuals and their families.

It’s not magic, it’s practice, rhythm, and a little bit of baby whispering.

After 14+ years photographing newborns, there are a few go-to soothing tricks I use at every session to help babies feel calm, safe, and sleepy.

Here are some of my favourites:

Swaddling for that womb-like comfort.

Gentle side holding or tummy time to ease any tension.

The classic “shhhh”, because sound really matters (apps help too!)

Rocking or soft movement (bonus if you hum)

Sucking for comfort and calm (dummy or feeding)

Ooohh want a bonus one?
A slow stroke on the baby’s forehead. Works like a charm.

Every baby is different, but these almost always help settle the mood.

She didn’t come to this session unsure.

She already knew me—she’d trusted me with her maternity and newborn sessions. But this time was different.

This time was for her.

She came knowing who she is and ready to celebrate it.

In her 40s, she’s found more confidence, more clarity, and a deeper appreciation for what matters most.

She spoke of embracing self-love, shedding insecurities, and living with humour and presence.

“I decided to do something for me… I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it this much.”

And that’s what this experience is really about.
Not becoming someone else, but returning to yourself.

Playful. Strong. Present. Real.

This is what it looks like to take up space.

To honour your story.

To say: “This is me. And I’m proud of her.”

What would a session just for you look like? What would it feel like to step in front of the lens, just as you are?

If you’ve been thinking about it…this is your sign to say yes to yourself. ✨

You see the calm, the softness, the polished final photo.

But behind it? There’s the mess.
The cleaning.
The planning.
The rescheduling.
The blogging.
The back and forth with clients.
The endless emails, the tech glitches, the wobbles…
And just enough espresso to hold it all together.

Running a heart-led business isn’t always picture-perfect.

But it’s mine. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

It’s never just a click, is it?

What’s your behind-the-scenes really look like these days?

We’re so quick to look at ourselves in photos and see the things we want to change.

Especially after birth.

The softness. The swelling. The “not quite back to myself” feeling.

But what if we stopped asking:

“Do I look okay?”

And started asking:

“Will this photo remind me of how strong I was? How much love was in that moment?”

Because your body isn’t the focus.

Your connection is.

And that’s what truly lasts.

What would happen if you gave yourself more kindness when you look back at photos?

I didn’t have it all figured out when I started.

I didn’t have a studio.

Or a business plan.

Or even much confidence, to be honest.

But I had a deep love for photography.

And I kept showing up, learning by doing, failing, adjusting, growing.

15 years later, I get to do work that feels like home.

I get to empower others through my lens.

To help women feel seen, held, and remembered.

And that’s something I’ll never take for granted.

This is part of Reflections Beyond the Frame, a personal series about slowing down, looking inward, and seeing ourselves without the need for polish or perfection.

Today’s reflection: Letting go.

Perfection has held me back for years, since school, in motherhood, and through the slow unfolding of my business.

I thought striving for it meant reaching for something better. But lately, I’ve been asking: what is perfection, really?

It’s not real.
It’s not shared.
It only exists in my mind—and even there, it shifts constantly.
It often disguises itself as fear:
Fear of not being good enough.
Fear of being judged.
Fear of being truly seen.

So if perfection is born from fear…
What are we really striving for?

What looks “perfect” to me might mean nothing to someone else.

So why chase something that holds me back more than it helps me move forward?

This photo is part of that question.
A self-portrait.
An exercise in showing up blurry, unfinished, imperfect—real.
Letting go isn’t always graceful.
Sometimes it’s quiet.
A small shift.
A decision to be soft where I used to hold tension.
To show up as I am.
To be seen anyway.

Progression is now my mantra.

Not perfection. Just movement. Just honesty.
Just me.

What have you been holding onto that no longer serves you? Maybe today’s the day to let it go.
