You’ve been waiting for what feels like forever and now, here you are. The third trimester.
I still remember how intense those last few weeks of pregnancy can be. Excitement, nerves, exhaustion, and the sudden realisation that… wait, is everything ready?
You might feel like time is speeding up and that nesting instinct has fully kicked in. If you’re wondering what’s left to do before your baby arrives, I’ve got you covered with a gentle third trimester checklist to help you feel more prepared and a little more at peace.

Third Trimester To-Do List
✅ Pack your hospital bag
If you haven’t already, now’s the time! Include essentials for both you and baby, and don’t forget some comforting extras like lip balm, snacks, and your favourite pillow.

✅ Install the car seat
Try a dry run now, it’s much easier to figure it out when you’re not running on zero sleep! Keep it installed so you’re not scrambling on the big day.
✅ Stock the freezer
Cooking will be the last thing on your mind in the early newborn days. Prepare some nourishing, easy-to-reheat meals now so you can focus on bonding (and resting!).

✅ Assemble the pram and prep your baby kit
Unbox and set up anything you haven’t yet, especially things like the pram, crib, and changing station. You’ll thank yourself later.
✅ Consider getting a sling or baby wrap
You’ll likely use it more than you think. They’re especially helpful in those early weeks when baby wants to be close, and you want your hands free.

✅ Book a pamper session or mini-moon
This is your final stretch before everything changes. Whether it’s a quiet lunch date, a spa afternoon, or a long nap in clean sheets, do something just for you (or you and your partner).

✅ Wrap things up at work
Try to finish loose ends and hand over anything that needs delegating. It’s normal to feel a mix of relief and overwhelm, don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it.
✅ Prepare for your Health Visitor visit
In the UK, your Health Visitor will often arrange a home visit before baby arrives. It’s a chance to ask questions and ensure your sleeping arrangements and newborn essentials are in place.
✅ Finalise your birth preferences
Even though things might not go exactly to plan, thinking through your wishes can give you clarity and calm when the big day comes.
✅ Book your newborn portraits
The third trimester is the perfect time to schedule your newborn session, before baby arrives and things get a little more unpredictable. Booking early means we can plan together, and you’ll have one less thing to think about when your baby is here.

Wishing You a Gentle Third Trimester
I know that the third trimester can bring a whole mix of emotions: excitement, nerves, joy, and maybe a few sleepless nights. Whatever you’re feeling, know that it’s all valid. Use this time to slow down, prepare at your own pace, and savour the anticipation. You’re doing great, and your baby is lucky already.
If you haven’t documented your pregnancy yet, I would encourage you to download my Pregnancy journal and start jotting down your journey and feelings. Your future self will thank you one day.
I hope this list helps you feel a little more grounded and ready for the magical (and sometimes chaotic!) adventure ahead.
If you have any questions about booking your newborn session or just want to chat through the options, feel free to reach out. I’d love to help you capture those fleeting early days.
