Even though pregnancy comes with a lot of difficult trials, it is an amazing time in your life. It is a time of celebration and anticipation as you prepare to meet your little bundle of joy. It’s a time when you become strong, actually stronger than you ever thought you could possibly be. During this time, you create your initial bond with your child that will continue throughout your entire life. And those changes, both physical and emotional, are part of an incredible journey that deserves to be celebrated.

There are only very few women who actually feel like they are beautiful while they are pregnant. However, the miracle of pregnancy is a beautiful thing. Swollen feet, stretch marks, and hormone changes aside, you are growing a real live human being inside of you.  All of those side effects come from different things your body has to do to help nourish and protect your baby. This is amazing and a real miracle!

Nobody tells you that the last weeks of pregnancy are also the last weeks of being just you.

You’re not quite a mother, yet. But you’re not quite yourself anymore either.

Somewhere in between, carrying a whole person you haven’t met.

This is the photo of the woman you were, right before.

Before the sleepless nights. Before you start disappearing, just a little, into someone else’s story for a while.

We see ourselves so differently than others see us.

That gap is where this work lives. I’m not trying to make anyone look like someone else. I’m showing them what was already there, just from outside their own head.

And that image becomes a print. Something to hold, not to just scroll past. A different mirror.
